Caitlin
Caitlin Winters is a 23-year-old almost-human. She was born in the small mining town of Darrow to Direk (then 21), a bookstore owner, and Mara (then 18), a singer of some repute. She inherited her mother's natural grace and vocal talents, although not her beauty or charm. She is short and slender, and can move like a cat when she tries, which is not often. Her eyes are a pale, watery blue-grey, and her hair is a flat brown, almost always gathered in a braid.
Somewhere far up the family tree of Caitlin's father is a wizard. The magic wizards wield is greatly feared; the children of wizards are commonly considered cursed, in no small part because of the corrupting effects of magic upon unborn children. Caitlin tries to hide any trace of her arcane heritage for this reason; only very careful inspection will reveal the indelible eldritch marks on her wrists and throat, which she keeps concealed as much as she can. She does, however, have a small measure of magical talent herself; while she is not blessed with magical gifts, she does have the hints of power required to be a healer. As such, she is able to infuse power into certain special tonics and elixirs.for details of how this works, see below.
Caitlin joined the prestigious Academy Mundane when she was 17 years old. There, she was trained in the medical knowledge of the day. Five years later, she graduated, a fully-qualified and entirely-inexperienced medic. She joined an expedition venturing deep into the jungle shortly thereafter. Her party's airship was ambushed by pirates, whose base they had wandered unwittingly near; the explosion of the airship's intricate propulsion system released enough energy to tear a transient hole in the local planar cosmology, leaving her (and the surviving members of her party) with no idea where they were. They began trekking northeast, knowing that the closest city was that direction, unaware that they were not in the same forest any longer. While crossing a colossal river that did not appear on any of their maps of the area, Caitlin fell and was swept away; she awoke a few hours later, washed up on a bank far downstream. From there, she struck out on her own, missing much of her gear; after two days' travel, she found the Inn.
Caitlin currently has: a knife, several days' rations, a dozen infused potions (see below), two flasks of water, a coil of rope, a grappling hook, an explorer's outfit (worn), two first-aid kits, flint, steel, and a small steel cauldron.
Caitlin's Talents
Caitlin can produce magical tonics and oils with the right ingredients and some amount of effort. She currently knows the following recipes:
She is also capable of purifying water; this requires no ingredients (other than the liquid itself, of course), but requires half an hour of concentration per liter of liquid.

Caitlin's Talents
Caitlin can produce magical tonics and oils with the right ingredients and some amount of effort. She currently knows the following recipes:
- Close Wounds: This oil can be rubbed into a wound to cause it to close quickly - after a mere two hours of rest or less. It is produced with a small quantity of Spriteflower (a plant endemic to this area) dissolved in warm water; it takes her about half an hour to infuse this power into a potion.
- Cleanse Wounds: This oil can be rubbed into a wound to sterilize it. It is produced with a small quantity of Trollweed (common) dissolved in boiling water; it takes her about half an hour to infuse this power into a potion.
- Ease Pain: This oil can be applied to an area to numb it. It is produced with a small amount of Copperthorn (common) dissolved in warm water, with two drops of honey added; it takes her about an hour to infuse this power into a potion.
- Mend Body: This potion can be drunk to cause broken bones and damaged nerves to repair themselves quickly - with a day's rest, instead of a month's (in the case of bones) or never (in the case of nerves). It requires a large quantity of Spriteflower, as well as a small amount of powdered Dryad's Hair (a small fern, quite difficult to find); it takes three hours of intense concentration to infuse this power into a potion.
- Cleanse Body: This potion helps the body fight off intruders (parasites or diseases) more effectively. It is made with a large quantity of Trollweed and a few leaves of Goldblossom (quite rare). It takes about three hours to produce this infusion.
She is also capable of purifying water; this requires no ingredients (other than the liquid itself, of course), but requires half an hour of concentration per liter of liquid.
