Everyone knows that there are several different character roles/classes. There are characters specialized in offense, defense, support, healing, speed, and so on.
... So where do our characters fit?
Figuring this out will help us pin down what skills and moves our characters should have, as well as how well distributed they really are. For instance, if half the roster turns out to be specialized in defense, it's best to realize this now and see what characters could be dropped or changed to distribute things better.
I'll post my own characters to start with, along with some more details. Keep in mind that villains can do this as well! It's no fun if all the villains are similar, after all, so it's just as important to see how they are distributed.
Kikari: Support/defense (guards the others)
Kikari's high defense and Puppy Eyed (can't take critical hits) make him a good defense type, but multiple of his skills (Carry, Repair, Chivalry (takes hits for others)) also rely on him helping the other characters. Carry in combination with Flight also lets him carry other characters across hazards they can't cross on their own.
Knock Off (disarm enemy), Hug (paralyzes enemy and self) and Befriend (may befriend an enemy) I don't know where stand on this, though Hug emphasizes that he needs others to help him and will likely stay.
Devic: Speed (hit-and-run)
Devic is, long story short, a hit-and-run character. His abilities to bypass defense make up for his mediocre attack stat, and Pain Tolerant (no flinching) and Stubborn (lessened paralyzation) mean he'll be stalled less than other characters.
His high speed, combined with Flight, makes it easy for him to dart out of a dangerous situation - and to get into one. Ideally he's the first one to reach the opponents, and careless play will get him knocked out due to his incredibly low HP and defense stats. He has high evasion and Hunting Mode will let him hide from sight, but once he gets struck he may be KO'd even at full health.
Iro: Offense
Despite her healing skill Iro's a definite offensive character. She can hold her own and has several offense-related skills. Self-healer helps cement this.
She does have traits of a berserker if Elixer or Devic are in play alongside her, though.
