The TLDR version is: The RP versions of Kikari and Devic won't be able to be in the game. As a result, I'm wondering what we do in response; replace them, use their non-RP versions with all the dialogue changes it entails, retool the game entirely (removing or replacing characters deemed too 'out there' and changing the plot in addition to the dialogue changes and overall making it fit in more with the non-RP-versions), or just plain cancel the game. I'm looking for alternate solutions and opinions on what you all want us to do.
The long version:
I'm going to use Kikari and Devic in a game and/or comic series involving many of my RP characters, called "Robots and Cute Things". I also want to use Crimson's characters (I've gotten permission from him) in that series, and basically, the characters involved will act different and be in different circumstances than the RP versions have been, since they're much younger and there is no Clearing there(the forest is just a regular forest), so they are lacking most of the trauma and fantastic things they've endured in RP. As well, because of the problems with collaboration, ease of writing, and just plain not fitting in, aside from a few exceptions (like Crim) none of the Forest characters are going to be in RaCT. In essence, the Kikari and other characters that appear in RaCT are completely different people from the ones that are in the RP.
As a result, using the RP versions in the game would mean the introduction of many quite frankly weird characters that Kikari and Devic both seem to know for no reason, a setting that's completely alien, the loss of Speedline and Gin who are major characters in the series, and the two acting extremely out of the norm. It would confuse and upset players, so to avoid alienating any RaCT fans, I'd have to pick one iteration of the characters and stick with it. And I feel that RaCT is far more important to me than the Forest RP game.
Which means that something in the game has to change. It's a problem I've been mulling over for a long time, and I figure it's time to bring it up and ask all of you. These are the solutions I've thought of:
1. Kikari and Devic are removed from the game altogether, replaced by other characters that are either carbon copies of them, AKA the same characters but with a different name and appearance, or left out and treated like they don't really exist. Logistically this is the quickest and easiest change.
2. Use the RaCT versions of Kikari and Devic, and change the dialogue accordingly. They would know hardly anyone, after all, so all interactions involving them would change. I'm a bit hesitant about this, since it would mean that not only is half the RaCT crew not taken along, but 99% of the characters will be complete strangers. That is, in professional terms, "really sh*tty writing" and I imagine it'd feel like the characters were just shoehorned in to boost sales.
3. Change the game to fit with RaCT. This would be the most time-consuming solution, making changes to both the plot and the character roster in addition to the dialogue changes. Characters would be removed and replaced, especially the ones with powers that are just too "out there" and don't fit into the RaCT setting, for example Serenity (a demon with healing powers that can fix any wound is just a bit too out of the norm to work) or Galatea (hyper-advanced technological wonder with her own personal army, too powerful AND too strange...). I think this is also the most appealing solution, but with the character roster changes, I can imagine many of you wouldn't be happy with it.
4. Stop. If we can't figure out any way to make it work, then we may just have to cancel production on the game and give up.
What are your thoughts? Which solution seems the best, or do you have any other solutions?
